We Welcome Our Newest Sibling in the Canadian UNESCO Biosphere Family
A five-year-long quest has finally paid off. On September 15, 2021, the Átl’ka7tsem/Howe Sound region was at long last recognized as Canada’s 19th biosphere region by UNESCO. The community-managed Biosphere Region—home to ancient glass sponge reefs and two million-year-old volcanoes—champions local solutions to global environmental challenges.
