Alberta's Draft Plan for Parks Now Open for Public Input
Alberta Forestry and Parks has released a new draft Plan for Parks and is seeking input from individuals, organizations and communities across the province. The updated plan outlines the strategic direction for managing Alberta’s provincial parks system into the future, building on the original Plan for Parks introduced in 2009.
Since the first plan was released, Alberta’s parks network has grown, and so too have the opportunities for conservation, education, recreation and sustainable tourism. The new draft plan presents a refreshed vision, enduring goals and outcomes that reflect the evolving role of parks in supporting both ecological integrity and community well-being. It also includes actions to guide how these goals will be achieved while responding to emerging pressures and embracing new opportunities.
Public engagement on the draft Plan for Parks is open May 27 - July 26, 2025. Everyone is encouraged to read the draft and share their thoughts through the online survey to help shape the future of Alberta’s parks.
