Botany Alberta 2025 Comes to the Beaver Hills Biosphere
From June 13 - 15, 2025, the Beaver Hills Biosphere will welcome plant enthusiasts, naturalists and researchers for Botany Alberta, hosted at the Strathcona Wilderness Centre. This annual event brings together participants from across the province to explore and document Alberta’s native flora. Guided field hikes throughout the weekend will visit key conservation areas within the Biosphere, including the Smith-Blackburn Homestead, Beaver Hills Biodiversity Trail, Hicks Conservation Land and several Nature Conservancy of Canada sites.
These excursions will showcase the region’s rich mosaic of wetlands, forests and rolling parkland terrain - all critical habitats for biodiversity. Participants will contribute to updating plant species records for the area, supporting ongoing research and conservation efforts. The weekend also features a Saturday evening dinner and presentation by ecologist Dr. Kevin Timoney at the Wilderness Centre Lodge.
